lets see if i get screwed again this year.

so 2 years ago (winter 07/08) i worked out really hard all winter and was in really good shape by the start of season (march ’08). in april/may i felt as good as i ever have since ive been playing vball. at that time is when my marriage started crapping out and i quit working out. then the split up and i didnt work out or eat for quite some time. went through the rest of the vball season weak and feeling terrible every time i played. fortunately won all the tournaments we played – so i guess that helped me get through it. lost 25+ lbs of muscle and lost all the strength in my legs through this.

last winter, again worked out really hard through the winter, even incorporated hill sprints and some other new exercises and felt really good at the start of last season. felt like i was jumping well, and i was jump serving better than ever. then a month or so into the season, i messed my back up really badly. couldnt walk/get out of bed for 2 days, and it took me almost a week before i could stand up completely straight and walk normally (still in pain). i was supposed to do rehab and not play vball for 6 weeks minimum.. but this was at a very important part of the season (may/june) that had the 4th of july qualifiers. i started peppering again pretty much as soon as i could stand up straight, and i started playing again as soon as i could somewhat jump again without excruciating pain. i wound up sitting out for only 2 weeks or so. i did do about 3 weeks of physical therapy though, so maybe that helped a bit. anyways, because of this, i couldnt work out at all – legs or upper body because my back was very tender and it pretty much hurt to do anything. so i went through the rest of the season not working out and trying to deal with back pain to play through all the tournaments. lost about 12-14lbs of muscle and most of the strength in my legs through this.

well this winter – partially due to the bad weather and scarce vball, i have been working my butt off, and am probably in the best shape ive been in in my entire life – as far as muscle/body fat/endurance  (post-wreck of course). most of you know how much i love “leg night” at the gym.. and how i always talk about it. its because the stronger my legs get, the better i feel when i play vball. i feel very explosive, and everything seems to take less effort. the best ive ever felt while playing are at times when my legs have been the strongest – and i know im working toward reaching that point again.

anyways, cant wait to see what screws me up this year.
